Carers Week Programme

Carers Week - 7-13 June 2021

For Carers Week 2021, we’ve put together a programme of various talks and activities. Join us for informative talks and wellbeing sessions, and we’re closing with a sociable cuppa with the carers hub team and other carers.

Who is it for?

All sessions are open to adults over 18 years who are Islington professionals or residents, or who are caring for someone who is an Islington resident.

Monday, 7 June

10:30-12:00 – Let’s Talk… Caring & Benefits by Islington People’s Rights
IPR will be providing up to date benefit advice, looking at the process and criteria for Carers Allowance, Pension Credits, Universal Credits. They’ll also provide information and advice on the Tribunal Process for appeals and the support that IPR can provide with specialist welfare and benefit advice.

14:00-15:30 – Selfcare Advice & Hand Massage by Nature’s Pure Love
This is a taster session of Nature’s Pure Love ’30 Day Mindfulness Power Session’ to start the day for transforming your being and to feel the difference in yourself.

Tuesday, 8 June

10:30-12:00 – Let’s Talk… Cancer by Macmillan Cancer Support
Macmillan will be facilitating a presentation looking at the different diagnoses of cancer and different stages and treatment options. They will be looking at how Cancer can affect you physically, emotionally and financially. There will also be an overview of the Macmillan service and a Q&A session.

Wednesday, 9 June

10:30-12:00 – Let’s Talk… Learning Disabilities by Centre 404
Centre 404 will be sharing information about the service they provide for individuals with autism, learning disabilities and caring responsibilities. They will also highlight statistics and discuss barriers for daily living and caring responsibilities. There will also be a Q&A session.

14:00-15:15 – Movement & Dance Session by Eilidh Scott
An opportunity to get moving and this time with experienced instructor, Eilidh Scott, well known to ICH. Her interactive movement class is suitable for all ages and all abilities and will surely lift your mood!

Thursday, 10 June

10:30-12:00 – Let’s Talk… Dementia by C&I NHS Foundation Trust
An overview of dementia services provided by C&I. Diagnosis and support for the carer and the cared for.

12:00-13:00 – Dementia Friend Information Session by Jeanne Pring
Dementia Friends information session (DFIS) is an official Alzheimer’s Society programme. The intention of the DFIS is to raise awareness of dementia by understanding the effects of the disease and supporting people living with dementia in our community.

14:00-15:30 – Let’s Talk… Mental Health by C&I NHS Foundation Trust
C&I NHS will talk about the importance of the carer’s role in supporting someone with psychosis; carers’ wellbeing. There will be a brief overview of services provided by the Trust and a summary of the key subjects presented in the Trust Psycho-education group (providing information and support to better understand and cope with illness).

Friday, 11 June

10:30-12:00 – Yoga Session by Dr Adi Priya
Come take a moment to breathe, relax, and take some time for yourself. Dr Adi Priya is well known to ICH and runs a regular weekly online Get Together. Help reduce stress, anxiety and maintain flexibility!

14:00-16:00 – Virtual Cuppa
Join the Carers Hub Team and other carers for a cuppa and a friendly chat – biscuits and cake optional!
