Carers Week – 8-14 June 2020

Islington Carers Hub hosted a week of online activities for Carers Week, 8 -14 June, together with partner Centre 404. We launched this year’s proceedings with a video featuring Islington Mayor, Rakhia Ismail.

Carers Week is a national initiative which highlights the importance of unpaid carers, the challenges that carers face and recognition of the contribution that they make to families and their communities. This year the Carers Week campaign in Islington took place online. Have a look at the full Carers week Programme.

Carers Week Activities – You’re Invited To Take Part!

We asked carers to plan a short break from their caring duties to give one of our fun online activities a try.  There was a Dance Exercise Class and a Self-care Pampering Party for men and women, daily Music & Reminiscence Sessions and a Virtual Quiz with prizes, all via Zoom. There were also daily “shout outs” from people who are cared for to their carers and a ‘caring’ poetry reading every day.

Carers Week – Poems About Caring

We celebrated carers in Islington through poetry. We posted 4 poems about caring during carers week. If you missed them, you can still listen to them here on our website.

Carers Week – Carers Biographies

Read about the experiences of three Islington carers caring for family members with dementia – the challenges, the rewards and the support that they received in their carers journeys.

Carers Week – Virtual Information Stalls

During Carers Week, we would normally have had a host of organisations come to a launch event at the Islington Town Hall. They would have a stall there with information about the support they provide to Islington residents. This year we invited them to include an outline of their services for our online Information ‘Stalls’.
